AUT's Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training qualifies you to work as a personal trainer and fitness instructor.
This personal training course provides you with the knowledge and skills to assist clients in reaching their personal health and fitness goals. You will also learn vital business skills to help you succeed in a career either as a gym or studio-based contracted trainer, employee trainer or as an independent personal trainer.
Ever wondered how to become a personal trainer? The Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training focuses on weight training in a gym environment therefore, we highly recommend that you are an active gym member so you can put into practice what you are learning.
You are given access to the AUT Sport and Fitness Centres during your enrolment in each short course (from the start date to the assessment date). This will help you turn your theory into practical learning.
Students are required to attend all in-person classes on the AUT North Campus in addition to online self-study throughout the course. There are no online classes to attend.
By successfully completing the three courses for the Short Course in Personal Training, you could be a qualified personal trainer within 4-5 months.
AUT's Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training qualifies you to work as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. Many of our students who complete the Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Training are highly sought after for their expert knowledge and skills, with many finding employment within the fitness industry in numerous gyms, recreation and community centres throughout New Zealand and overseas.

AUT reserves the right to cancel courses that don’t have enough students. If this happens, you’ll be given at least 2 or 3 days’ notice and can transfer to another start date for this course.
