Our beginner courses focus on both spoken and written te reo Māori. Students with no prior knowledge of the language should enrol in MAOR505, which is a prerequisite for MAOR506.
Our beginner courses cover a variety of topics including: Whanaungatanga, Whakapapa and pepeha, Tohutohu (instructions and commands), Tūāhua (asking and saying how someone is feeling), Te Wā (telling the time), Te Wā – inamata me te anamata (time – past and future), Ngā Mihimihi, Ngā Tohutohu (daily instructions), Ngā Whakakāhoretanga (negatives – negating verbal and nominal sentences), Ngā haepapa (responsibilities) and Ngā kīwaha (idiom and exclamations) amongst other topics.
