Associate psychologist postgraduate programme

The recently announced associate psychologist postgraduate programme will enable graduates from an undergraduate psychology degree to continue their studies and complete a one-year postgraduate diploma to become an associate psychologist, helping more New Zealanders access mental health and addiction support.

Update on the development of this new programme

At this stage, the associate psychologist postgraduate programme is in the early development stages, and the entry and completion requirements won’t be confirmed until after the formal consultation and approval process has been undertaken.

This will depend on:

  • The scopes of practice and core competencies as defined by the New Zealand Psychologists’ Board – these need to go through stakeholder consultation with the psychology profession and community stakeholders before being confirmed
  • The consultation we will undertake with stakeholders as part of the programme design
  • Approval through AUT's Academic Board
  • Approval through the Universities New Zealand Committee on University Academic Programmes (CUAP), which regulates all programmes

Once AUT has submitted this new programme to CUAP, we will be able to provide more details. Updates will be posted on this page as soon as they’re available.
