Outdoor Learning

The great outdoors is an institution in New Zealand as a place to learn and grow. Explore how outdoor activities can enhance wellbeing and environmental sustainability, with a focus on sites in the greater Auckland area.

You’ll learn to understand the importance of place and cultural considerations, and find out how to develop outdoor programmes that meet your clients’ needs and make it easier for more people to take part. There’s a strong focus on experience-based learning, and you’ll become familiar with campcraft, navigation and safely moving in land and marine-based environments.

This minor pairs well with our Health and Physical Education major, and can prepare you for a future as an outdoor education teacher, outdoor instructor, outdoor programme coordinator or business owner.
