Southern Cross Nursing Scholarships

The Southern Cross Health Trust is offering scholarships for Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) and Master of Nursing Science students in 2025.

The scholarships include:

  • $500 per week stipend when out on placement
  • Contribution to your fees
  • Annual health and wellbeing support allowance
  • Priority clinical placements with a Southern Cross hospital
  • Opportunity for a part-time role in a Southern Cross hospital or healthcare service provider
  • Mentoring and additional learning opportunities

Students who demonstrate passion for nursing and are experiencing personal challenge or disadvantage that may prevent them from undertaking or completing their studies are invited to apply.

Scholarships you can apply for

There are 15 x undergraduate and 2 x postgraduate scholarships available in 2025, for both new and returning AUT nursing students.

Southern Cross Nursing Scholarship – Undergraduate

In 2025, 15 x scholarships are available to domestic students:

  • 5 x scholarships available to students entering their first year of study
  • 5 x scholarships for students entering their second year of study
  • 5 x scholarships for students entering their final year of study

Each scholarship includes the following:

  • A contribution of $1,000 towards tuition fees, provided that the academic year is not covered by government funding (fees-free)
  • $500 per week towards living expenses during clinical placements
  • $500 per year towards personal health and wellbeing expenses
  • Funding of the Nursing Council Examination Fee for those who are in their final year of study
  • Priority clinical placements in Southern Cross Healthcare hospitals and subsidiaries subject to separate written agreement between Southern Cross Healthcare and recipients including relevant background checks where appropriate
  • The opportunity to explore a part-time role under separate employment contract in a Southern Cross Healthcare hospital or healthcare service provider that offers flexibility during clinical placement (the clinical placement can’t be in the same facility as the part-time role)
  • The opportunity for a ‘Buddy’ relationship to be facilitated with a Southern Cross Healthcare nurse
  • Additional group learning opportunities such as online/in-person workshops with senior leaders about specific topics, clinical learning sessions, visits to Southern Cross Healthcare’s National Support Office

Southern Cross Nursing Scholarship - Postgraduate (Master)

In 2025, two scholarships for Master of Nursing Science students are available to domestic students:

  • 1 x scholarship for students entering their first year of master’s degree study
  • 1 x scholarship for students entering their second year of master’s degree study

Each scholarship includes:

  • A contribution of $1,000 towards tuition fees
  • $500 per week towards living expenses during clinical placements
  • $500 per year towards personal health and wellbeing expenses
  • Funding of the Nursing Council Examination Fee for those who are in their final year of study
  • Priority clinical placements in Southern Cross Healthcare hospitals and subsidiaries subject to separate written agreement between Southern Cross Healthcare and recipients including relevant background checks where appropriate.

Starting your nursing degree in 2025? The Southern Cross Health Trust is giving all first-year students in both the Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) and Master of Nursing Science a starter kit that includes a voucher for a nursing uniform, shoes and flu vaccinations.
