Southern Cross Nursing Scholarships

The Southern Cross Health Trust is offering scholarships for Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) students in 2026.

The scholarships include:

  • $500 per week stipend when out on placement
  • Contribution to your fees
  • Annual health and wellbeing support allowance
  • Priority clinical placements with a Southern Cross hospital
  • Opportunity for a part-time role in a Southern Cross hospital or healthcare service provider
  • Mentoring and additional learning opportunities

Students who demonstrate passion for nursing and are experiencing personal challenge or disadvantage that may prevent them from undertaking or completing their studies are invited to apply.

Semester 1, 2026 scholarships open from 30 August 2025 and close 11 October 2025

Southern Cross Nursing Scholarship – Undergraduate

In 2026, 6 x scholarships in total are available to domestic students, for first-year students commencing as follows:

  • 3 x scholarships for Semester 1
  • 3 x scholarships for Semester 2

Each scholarship includes the following:

  • A contribution of $5,000 towards tuition fees in years one and two (third-year fees free)
  • $500 per week of clinical placement towards living expenses
  • $500 per year towards personal health and wellbeing expenses
  • Funding of the Nursing Council Examination Fee for those who are in their final year of study
  • Priority clinical placements in Southern Cross Healthcare hospitals and subsidiaries subject to separate written agreement between Southern Cross Healthcare and scholarship recipients including relevant background checks where appropriate
  • The opportunity to explore a part-time role under a separate employment contract in a Southern Cross Healthcare hospital or healthcare service provider that offers flexibility during clinical placement. Note: clinical placement cannot be in the same facility as the part-time role
  • Involvement in the Southern Cross Student Mentor Programme
  • Additional group learning opportunities such as online/in-person workshops with senior leaders about specific topics, clinical learning sessions, visits to Southern Cross Healthcare’s National Support Office

Starting your nursing degree in 2026? The Southern Cross Health Trust is giving all first-year students in the Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) a starter kit that includes a voucher for a nursing uniform, shoes and flu vaccinations.
