3rd-year student, Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Software Development
The teaching team is one of the highlights of his studies, says Nghia Pham who came to AUT as an international student from Vietnam to study a Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Software Development.
“I’ve really enjoyed the way the teaching team at AUT supports students. I always get the answers to all of my questions from the lecturers and teaching assistants in a very short amount of time. They were also very supportive when I was trying to finish some assignments for a course I found a bit challenging. Because they answered my queries so quickly, the assignments weren’t as hard as I thought.”
He is also making the most of student life.
“I like the way AUT has a lot of sports clubs and activities to choose from. I’ve been playing football in the AUT football club and have been going to the AUT gym since my first year at university. This has given me the chance to make new friends and improve my fitness at the same time.”
Choosing AUT
He knew he had found the right university degree when he came across the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences, Nghia says.
“When I researched university programmes related to IT, I was about to do a Bachelor of Science majoring in computing at a different university. But then I found AUT’s Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences, which is way more focused on IT than any other programme I found, so I decided to apply for this degree.”
What he appreciates most about his degree is that it specifically focuses on different aspects of computing.
“I came to AUT because it’s the only university in New Zealand that offers a very specific IT programme, and I believe this will prepare me well for the career in software development I’m planning to have after I graduate.”
Advice for other students
Expecting to graduate from AUT later this year, Nghia has some great advice for other students.
“For all students who are about to do IT at university, my advice is to carefully research what field of IT you want to be involved in after you graduate.”
AUT is a great option if you’re considering studying computing, he adds.
“I’d recommend including AUT in your considerations because of the amazing support AUT offers its students.”
