Marketing Coordinator, Sintoro Sales & Marketing, Sydney
Bachelor of Business in Marketing
Because Nadia Herbst always liked business studies deciding to study marketing at university was easy.
“I was good at business in high school, but I wanted a pathway that allowed me to be creative. Marketing seemed the best option. I chose AUT for my university studies because I had heard good things from former students and liked the learning style at AUT.”
The campus life was one of the things she enjoyed the most about her time at AUT.
“I enjoyed meeting new people and making friends on campus. There was always something happening, and the facilities and campuses are great.”
A new life in Sydney
After completing her business degree at the end of 2023, Nadia is now based in Sydney and enjoys having a marketing career.
“Straight out of uni I got a job as a as a marketing assistant at Cure Kids in Auckland; a role I loved and learned so much. However, later in the year I felt that it was my time to move on as I'd been wanting to move to Australia since high school and never got the chance.
“Luckily I got a role in Sydney in late September 2024 and within two weeks I had packed up my life and am now working at a full service marketing agency as a marketing coordinator. The whole premise of the agency is to work as our clients' whole marketing team, which means that we have a whole range of clients and jobs that come to us.”
She is proud of what she has already achieved since graduating from AUT a little more than a year ago.
“I'm proud of having the courage to take the plunge of moving overseas and taking on a marketing coordinator role before even being out of university for a year. It has been a big adjustment, but I’ve been absolutely loving it here.”
Advice for other students
Nadia has some great advice for other students.
“Make the most of university. Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, about half of my degree was online, but I luckily got to make up for some lost experiences by going on a student exchange. I wish I had gotten more involved with AUT’s communities when I got a chance.”
Her other piece of advice is simple: consider going on a student exchange while you’re at AUT.
“If it’s something you’re considering, go on a semester abroad. It’s scary and intimidating to do, but it’s so worth it. I had always wanted to travel, so AUT’s student exchange programme to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, seemed like a good opportunity to not only see another country but to experience the teaching style in the US, as well as make friends and connections with people in other countries. I easily made lifelong friends with people from countries ranging from the UK, France and Germany to Guatemala and more. These people left such an impact on my life, and I’ll always cherish those memories.”
