2nd-year student, Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Networks and Cybersecurity & Accounting
Computers have always fascinated her, says Manshikha Chand who came to AUT as an international student from Fiji and is now studying networks and cybersecurity, and accounting.
“Getting a degree in computer sciences has always been my dream. I decided to major in cybersecurity as it’s an industry with great career prospects and job security, and the demand for professionals in this industry is growing drastically every year.
“To further enhance my capabilities, I also chose to study accounting as part of my degree as that was also my interest back in my high school days. I believe cybersecurity with accounting will offer great career opportunities in the industry. My combination of majors will offer me a broad pathway but at the moment I think I want to be involved in risk and compliance when I graduate.”
She says she would definitely recommend AUT’s Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences to other students.
“Computing skills will give you a competitive advantage when it comes to accomplishing your career goals and will make you a highly valued employee. As well as this, the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences degree also helps you be a part of the technological changes industries are constantly going through.”
The right choice
Deciding to come to AUT for her studies was easy, says Manshikha who went to high school in Fiji before moving to Auckland to study at AUT.
“For me, there was no better place than AUT. I knew that AUT is in the top 1% of universities worldwide, and I also wanted a university where I could learn the best out of technology. I feel that I got myself enrolled at the right institution.”
She is thoroughly enjoying her studies so far.
“I enjoy the flexibility of the lecture and lab content in this degree. The time allocation and workload for the course content is so manageable that I can fit in all my extracurricular activities along with my studies. I’m very committed to my studies, and I believe in setting SMART goals and working throughout the semester to achieve good grades. That feel of satisfaction after achieving targeted goals is what I enjoy the most.”
Advice for other students
Now in the second year of her studies, Manshikha has some great advice for other students.
“My advice for other students is to be dedicated and determined towards your studies from the very first day of classes.”
But don’t forget to make the most of your time at university, she adds.
“Along with your studies, make sure to make friends and enjoy university life.”
