1st-year student, Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Modelling and Computation & Networks and Cybersecurity
Certificate in Science and Technology
His goal is to work in the financial crime risk and forensics industry, says Kenneth Atmadja who is studying a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Modelling and Computation & Networks and Cybersecurity.
“I’m drawn to the field of financial crime risk and forensics because it offers an opportunity to solve complex problems and make a meaningful impact by protecting organisations and individuals from fraud. My main goal for my future career is to make a positive impact and use my skills to contribute to society, regardless of the specific field I work in.”
He says he has long been interested in mathematics.
“I’ve always enjoyed mathematics, but my real passion for it began in middle school, thanks to an engaging and playful teacher. From then on, I knew I wanted to pursue maths. My interest in networks and cybersecurity stems from a fascination with the security side of information technology, so I chose to include it as a major in my Bachelor of Science. I believe these fields offer a strong foundation for navigating the complexities of modern technology and data security.”
A balanced and lively student life
After starting his studies with a Certificate in Science and Technology, Kenneth is now in the first year of his Bachelor of Science and says he has thoroughly enjoyed his studies so far.
“I’ve loved gaining hands-on, practical experience during my studies, which I believe will be invaluable for my future career. It’s one thing to learn theories in a classroom, but applying them in practical situations has deepened my understanding and boosted my confidence. I’ve also appreciated the support of the teaching team, especially during my Certificate in Science and Technology; they were incredibly passionate and helped me along my learning journey.
“The events at AUT also make studying enjoyable and engaging, creating a balanced and lively student life. Whether it’s the social activities or the academic events, there’s always something happening to keep things exciting.”
While he is still in the early stages of his studies, he is proud of what he has achieved so far.
“I was honoured to receive the Linton Giles Memorial Cup last year for being the top graduate in the Certificate in Science and Technology. This achievement represented my hard work and consistency, and was one of the proudest moments of my life. It not only affirmed my dedication but also motivated me to continue pushing boundaries and striving for excellence.”
Advice for other students
Kenneth has some great advice for other students who are only at the start of their university journey.
“My advice is to take care of your health and wellbeing. Once your health is in check, everything becomes easier, and you’ll enjoy your work more when you’re feeling good.”
He certainly know what he is talking about.
“I’ve found that staying active and maintaining a balanced lifestyle has been key to my success at university. I appreciate having a gym on campus as I prioritise my health and fitness, which plays a huge role in maintaining my energy and focus for both my studies and extracurriculars.”
