Final-year student, Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Marketing
The numerous opportunities he has access to are what he loves most about his studies, says Dilon Kumar who is completing a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Marketing.
“From having industry professionals in our lectures to receiving emails about career expos, potential job offers and CV workshops, these opportunities have been the highlight of my time at AUT.”
One of the opportunities he particularly enjoyed was the workplace experience that is part of the Bachelor of Business.
“For my workplace experience, I was placed with Finex Chartered Accountants, an accounting firm in Ponsonby, where I was involved in accounting and marketing projects aligned with my majors. I got to hone my technical skills on software like Xero, MYOB, Canva, Microsoft 365 and Excel. I enjoyed the corporate experience and being able to see what it’s like working in my field. I enjoyed the wonderful connections I got to make, and was offered a full-time role in internal auditing and marketing after I graduate.”
A lifelong passion
Dilon says he has always been interested in business.
“I’ve had an interest in business from a young age, then got more familiar with it in high school and enjoyed it. My family owns a business that I’d like to help in, so studying business at university made sense to me.”
Deciding to come to AUT for his studies was easy for him.
“I chose to study at AUT because of the welcoming and sociable atmosphere. AUT has created this student-oriented environment that I was eager to be a part of, with a diverse group of people and great lecturers who are always there to guide you in the right direction. I also appreciated the flexibility with countless classes and flexible schedules, which enabled me to study full-time and work part-time.”
Advice for other students
Expecting to graduate later this year, Dilon has some great advice for other students.
“My advice for other students would be that it’s never too late to do what your heart desires and to give it your all in what you do.”
He wouldn’t hesitate to recommend studying at AUT to others.
“As an AUT student, you’re not just working towards a degree but are also gaining access to incredible opportunities, connections and resources that can significantly enhance your career and future.”
