Tourism Trainer (Diploma), New Zealand School of Tourism
Master of International Hospitality Management
Bachelor of International Hospitality Management in Food and Beverage

Her lecturers were the highlight of her time at AUT, says Bhavna Prakash who came to AUT to study a Bachelor of International Hospitality Management in Food and Beverage, and later returned for postgraduate study in the Master of International Hospitality Management.

“I chose to study at AUT because it’s a well-known university that offers the best and highest qualification in hospitality management.

“My lecturers inspired me to join the hospitality industry by sharing their own industry journeys. They also supported me throughout my journey, and encouraged me to study further by returning for postgraduate study a few years later and build a strong career.”

Inspiring the next generation
Now working at the New Zealand School of Tourism, Bhavna enjoys sharing her passion for hospitality with the next generation of students.

“My job involves teaching and preparing our diploma students for the industry, and encouraging them to successfully gain the qualification with a completed internship. I enjoy teaching students as well as sharing my hospitality industry experience and knowledge with them.”

When she draws on her own industry experience to inspire her students, there is one particular career achievement she is especially proud of.

“Before I joined the New Zealand School of Tourism, I was working at Sudima Auckland Airport and in 2017 I was named the Hotel Industry Food and Beverage Employee of the Year at the Hotel Industry Awards. That was a very proud achievement for me.”

Advice for other students
Bhavna, who completed her bachelor’s degree in 2014 and her master’s degree in 2022, has some great advice for other students who are only at the start of their university journey.

“My advice is to gain as much knowledge as possible while you’re at AUT as it offers a wide range hospitality and tourism opportunities.”

There is support available if you need it, she adds.

“Make sure you get support from your lecturers if you need it.”
