2nd-year student, Te Tohu Paetahi mō te Hoahoa – Bachelor of Design in Communication Design
Living in student accommodation is what he enjoys most about the student life at AUT, says communication design student Ben Forster who lives in the Wellesley Student Apartments at the AUT City Campus.
“The Wellesley Student Apartments offer an easy going, very supportive environment with good connections and a great team. I like everything about living here – from the people to the culture. This is my second year of staying at the Wellesley Student Apartments, and I decided to return here this year to work as a residential assistant and support other students living here.
“I’d definitely recommend living in student accommodation to other students. The Wellesley Student Apartments are very convenient – just a two-minute walk from the AUT City Campus and a five-minute walk from the Auckland CBD, and the community here is great.”
A passion for design
Enrolled in AUT’s communication design degree, Ben says he has always been interested in design and would one day like to have a career in marketing and advertising.
“Throughout my years in high school I never knew what I wanted to do when I left school, but when I was in Year 13, I decided to follow my passion for design from high school as it was always a strong interest. I chose to study at AUT because when looking into different universities focused on graphic design, I realised that AUT was one of the top schools producing standout graduates with a good name worldwide.”
It's a decision he hasn’t regretted.
“What I’ve enjoyed the most about studying communication design at AUT has been learning and experimenting with tools and software from the design industry.”
Advice for other students
Now in the second year of his studies, Ben has some great advice for other students.
“My advice is to be yourself and to enjoy every minute, especially while you’re living in the AUT student accommodation.”
He wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the communication design degree to other students.
“I would strongly recommend Te Tohu Paetahi mō te Hoahoa – Bachelor of Design in Communication Design because it’s a great course.”
