Tech Central has computers, laptops and software for AUT students to use. Learn more about where to find your nearest Tech Central and what software you can use on AUT computers.

Computer access in Tech Central

You can use AUT computers in Tech Central – some must be booked online ahead of time, but there are some you can use on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. You’ll find Tech Central in the library on each campus, as well as in other general access areas.

Summer hours:

Tech Zone A

  • From 8 November 2024 to 7 January 2025: Open 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday, closed weekends
  • Closed 18 December 2024 to 7 January 2025
  • Reopens 8am on 8 January 2025

Tech Zone B & C

  • Same hours as City Campus library

Tech Central in AL building & MA building

  • Same hours as North/South Campus library

Software you can use

Specialised faculty software

Tech Central computers are loaded with various faculty images like business, computer science-engineering and hospitality. These computers host specialised applications as specifically required by AUT faculties. For example, computer science and engineering computers will have software​​ and applications which business computers may not have.

However, all the computers have the same general image which consists of the basic applications like the Microsoft Office Suite.​

Other software students can use or download

AUT licensed versions of EndNote and other software packages are also available.

Guidelines for computer usage

While you're using AUT computers, act in a courteous manner and respect the rules set out in the AUT Computer Use Policy. These rules include:

  • ​No playing games
  • No smoking, eating or drinking
  • No talking on mobile phones
  • No unnecessary noise

​The ICT Service Desk staff has the right to ask you to leave if you're causing disruption.
