Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management

Created in 1903 by Ernest Solvay, Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management is part of Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). The main goal of the school is to train leaders who aspire to the ‘Homo Universalis’ ideal, with a focus on a multi-disciplinary perspective and focusing on a quantitative and scientific approach.

The school is accredited by EQUIS and AMBA, and is a member of AACSB.

Historically based in the heart of the city of Brussels, Solvay leverages the city’s geostrategic strengths for its students. Brussels is home to both NATO and the EU headquarters, the European base for a large number of international corporations, and an incredibly cosmopolitan environment, yet still has a very relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.

With Paris, Amsterdam and London all reachable within roughly 2 hours, Brussels is a beautiful hub that will put you in the perfect location for a semester to explore Europe while studying.

Solvay teaches in both English and French. A full list of their available courses can be found on their inbound webpages, navigate using the link in the ‘essentials’ table.

There is the option for exchange students to learn/improve their French skills. For total beginners, a free of charge, 40-hour French course is available in a private school. This is outside of the university programme and therefore not credited.

For intermediate to advanced French learners, there are credited courses available through ULB free of charge.

Specific subject requirements/restrictions

Some courses are ‘year-long’, exchange students need to be mindful during selection of these if they are only going for a single semester.

The programmes open to exchange students are at bachelor's degree 3 (3rd year), Master 1 (4th year) and Master 2 (5th year) levels. The expectation is that exchange students will have completed 4 to 5 semesters before their exchange starts.

We recommend speaking to the AUT Business School advisors about planning in an undergraduate exchange in your final year if you would like to select Solvay as your destination.
