Description of research project

I am Rebecca Richardson, a postgraduate psychology student from Auckland University of Technology and I am inviting you to participate in a survey examining people’s views about their bodies and sex. Your participation in this study is voluntary. The data collected in this study will contribute to the completion of my postgraduate qualification.

What is the purpose of this research?
The results of the study will facilitate the understanding of body image and sex among the general population, which in turn will give insight into gender differences in body image and sex, may benefit the quality of sexual education, and may potentially offer a way to intervene and reduce sexual assault prevalence. The research will be included in my thesis and potentially published as a journal article.

What will happen in this research?
In this study you will be asked to complete a demographic form and established surveys which explore self-esteem, body image, body image during sexual activity, as well as sexual autonomy through sexual initiation, sexual refusal, and contraceptive use.
