Description of research project

The purpose of the PhD research is to explore the perceptions and experiences of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) by those who have been treated for problematic alcohol use and who have some experience with A.A. in New Zealand. Potential participants will take part in my research by participating in an hour-long online focus group to express your views about Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.). Questions include: How helpful or not helpful was A.A. for your ongoing recovery? How so? Your input will be an invaluable part of my PhD study regarding A.A.’s place in the treatment of alcohol problems in New Zealand. I am conducting this research with my PhD supervisors, Associate Professor Maria Bellringer and Dr Wendy Wrapson, both of AUT.
