Wet night for Big Sleepout

Lifewise’s Big Sleepout last Thursday night was a huge success with over $105,000 raised to help tackle homelessness in New Zealand.

Threatening, black rain clouds welcomed the 75 participants as they arrived at AUT’s Hikuwai Plaza at the city campus for a night out in the cold.

By 9pm the plaza was ringed with sleeping bags as participants took shelter from the intermittent rain showers and gusty wind.

The objective of the Lifewise Big Sleepout was to raise awareness and funds to help tackle homelessness in New Zealand.

In addition to hosting the event, a number of AUT staff participated including Vice Chancellor Derek McCormack.

Lifewise general manager John McCarthy was also pleased with how it went.

“I would like to thank AUT for hosting this year’s successful event. I look forward to working constructively with them in the future towards our goal of eradicating homelessness in Auckland by 2020.”
