When Taylor Swift touches down in Australia in February 2024, academic Swifties will come together to discuss her influence in the academic conference the Swiftposium.
Senior Lecturer in Communication Studies, Rebecca Trelease, says Swift’s influence is enormous, not just in music and entertainment but in fields as diverse as mental health, gender and identity, economics and law.
Trelease says Swift’s influence is often discounted because she’s a woman, but she has huge influence.
“We look at her influence in our Media, Politics and Citizenship course, and a recent assignment option recently looks at her impact on voter registration in the USA. Following a social media post, 35,000 Americans registered to vote.”
