More than 100 students from AUT South Campus will perform as Southern Voices at the university’s winter graduation ceremonies, being held at Aotea Centre on July 28-29.
For the past week, the newly formed choir has been rehearsing every evening under the careful tutelage of award-winning choirmaster Igelese Ete.
Together, they will perform seven songs across five ceremonies, delivering a repertoire that spans several genres and languages, including English, Samoan, Tongan, Fijian and Hindi.
By volunteering their time and talent, students have made a valuable contribution to the AUT community at large. In the process, they’ve also grown more confident.
“Being part of the choir has already had a positive impact on the students involved. They are all looking forward to performing this week. And, their contribution will help create a very special graduation experience for our graduands, their families and friends,” says Walter Fraser, Head of Pacific Advancement at AUT.
