On behalf of Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Vice-Chancellor, Derek McCormack, has extended heart-felt sympathies to Sir Paul Reeves' wife Lady Beverley Reeves and his immediate family.

"This is a very sad day for his family, for all of us at AUT and for the many New Zealanders whose lives he touched. Sir Paul made an enormous contribution to the direction, spirit and prestige of AUT University. He was a man who engendered great respect, but one who was also respectful, compassionate and inclusive of others. The Council and I could not have wished for a better leader to represent the mission and vision of AUT locally and internationally," says Derek McCormack, Vice-Chancellor AUT.

Sir Paul has had a long association with AUT University, first as a Professor, then from 2005 as Chancellor. He represented the University locally on a number of matters, also on many international missions.

"Our University and the education sector has benefited greatly from Sir Paul Reeves' personal and professional passion and contribution. He was a force to be reckoned with, a friend and a visionary. He was a wonderful colleague and encourager, with a great grasp of the big picture who also had an ability to put things into perspective with his sense of humour and wit. I am among many who will sorely miss his spirit, contribution and friendship," adds Derek McCormack.

Long-term friend, Associate Professor Pare Keiha, Dean of Te Ara Poutama at AUT University is one of the organizing committee for Sir Paul's state funeral.
