An industry scholarship has provided a motivational boost for AUT accountancy student Aloma Moore.
Second year Business student Aloma Moore is still flying high after she was announced as a recipient of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) Pacific Island Scholarship for 2025.
Aloma was chosen from a pool of incredible talent and fierce competition to come away with one of three funding awards worth $5000 each which will go towards her study and programme fees in 2025.
Since 2020, CAANZ has been supporting tertiary students of Pacific heritage living in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands to assist with tuition fees and other costs involved in attaining their accounting qualifications.
By providing scholarships like these, CAANZ aim to break down financial barriers to success and open the door to greater opportunities in the accounting sector. The awards are a reflection of the organisation’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and their vision to increase Pacific representation in the accounting profession.
Aloma has already been working in the accounting and finance field for the past eight years and is on track to become a qualified accountant by the end of 2025.
She says choosing to study accounting was a ‘no-brainer’, “With my work experience, encouragement from previous managers, and my personal goals for professional growth, choosing to study accounting was a natural decision for me.”
The scholarship will open doors to new opportunities and help her progress on her chosen career path.
“It’s definitely given me a motivational boost in my studies, encouraging me to do my best. Like many students, throughout my academic journey I’ve faced numerous mental barriers and challenges - like being away from loved ones, exams, and our worst enemy - procrastination. This achievement serves as a motivational milestone, reminding me that I can persevere and succeed. It reinforces my belief that I can overcome obstacles and continue striving toward my goal of getting my degree.”
After graduating Aloma hopes to obtain her Chartered Accountancy and is looking forward to the next step in her professional journey.
Congratulations Aloma – this award is testament to your hard mahi and dedication to your studies and your community! We would also like to thank our partners CAANZ for supporting emerging leaders in the accounting profession and helping to progress careers.
