AUT Professor Max Abbott is set to speak at a public event on Monday evening, addressing growing community concern about cannabis use and legislation.
The 27 June event, organised by Community CAN, will address the impacts of criminalisation, access to medical cannabis, legal regulation supply models and public health outcomes. Discussion will be led by a panel of leading experts and thinkers, including Helen Kelly, Former President of the NZ Council of Trade Unions, and Max Abbott CNZM, Professor of Psychology & Public Health and Dean of AUT’s Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences.
Professor Abbott, a former president of the World Federation for Mental Health, has previously supported calls to review drug laws and policy. He argues current legislation has not reduced drug use, instead needlessly criminalising people, wasting police and court resources, and fueling organised crime.
