Post Fossil Fashion
On the opening weekend of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki’s Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary! exhibition, a group of seven final year Bachelor of Design fashion majors will showcase their making techniques and collections in an event called Post Fossil Fashion.
The event is a juxtaposition with the genius of Quant, who is widely regarded as fashion icon who harnessed the youthful spirit of the sixties and embraced new mass production techniques to create a new look for modern women. Curated by Lecturer Leica Johnson, Post Fossil Fashion seeks to expand the global conversation of what fashion is today and what it could be.
As we enter a post-fossil period, students strive to answer the following questions: how do we work to reduce a person’s consumption; what design practices and approaches support our ecology; how does the work reflect our locality; how do we change the notion of fashion in a society that reveres newness?
Post Fossil Fashion takes place only on opening weekend, from 11 am – 3 pm, on Saturday 11 December and Sunday 12 December.
It features the work of final year fashion students Tessa Wishart, Elena Koulizi, Dom Estell, Staryo Warren, Molly Whitehead, Pearl Si and Jalaina Hitchen.
Quant: Fashion Revolutionary runs from Friday 10 December 2021 – Sunday 13 March 2022. AUT is proud to partner with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
