Once-in-a-lifetime scholarship programme launches for graduating students
AUT InterNZ

AUT University is searching for graduating students for eight scholarships to experience working life in the USA. AUT InterNZ is a work experience and cultural exchange programme like no other, where New Zealand graduates will ‘earn their first stripes’ as global citizens working in New York and Los Angeles for eight to 12 weeks during 2014, laying foundations for future leadership roles.

The scholarships will pay for return airfares to each destination city in the US, visas and related insurance, a living allowance and a grant for accommodation. AUT InterNZ industry host partners are:

  • Paramount Recording Studios, Los Angeles
  • Saatchi & Saatchi, New York
  • Westpac Americas, New York
  • Play Rugby USA, New York
  • The B-Team, New York
  • Public Restaurant (AvroKo Hospitality Group), New York
  • Zolfo Cooper, New York
  • Red Antler, New York

To be eligible, applicants must be New Zealand citizens and full-time students at AUT who completed or will complete the requirements of their degree in 2013.

Through the partnerships with US businesses, including Saatchi & Saatchi and Paramount Recording Studios, AUT University is providing its graduates with an opportunity to complement their technical capabilities with a practical skillset highly valued by employers: leadership and communication skills, resilience and adaptability; as well as their awareness of New Zealand’s global context to develop ‘future leaders’.

AUT University’s Vice Chancellor Derek McCormack says that to truly grow global leaders from New Zealand we need to create and support more opportunities for our young achievers to develop a diverse and relevant skillset through 'real life' experiences in a range of environments.

“AUT InterNZ supports our young graduates in their acquisition of an understanding of business and industry in a global context, and their development of a ‘soft’ skillset, which is attractive to employers everywhere.

“We are delighted with our selection of industry host partners in the United States for the inaugural year of AUT interNZ, recognised as leaders in design, technology, social innovation, sport and entertainment,” says Mr McCormack.

Graduating students whose degree programme matches host companies’ requirements need to apply by Friday 4 October, 2013. For more information including scholarship regulations visit AUT InterNZ.
