As we get closer to the new year, many of us will be thinking about setting goals, but AUT staff member Kritteka Gregory already knows what her goal will be, to qualify in badminton for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Gregory is a digital content creator for AUT's Centre for Learning and Teaching and is currently overseas competing, helping to improve her world ranking and hopefully make the team heading to Glasgow in 2014.
Despite being ranked in the world's top 100, the AUT graduate is looking for sponsorship from the public to achieve that goal.
The Auckland resident completed a Bachelor of Art and Design and a Postgraduate Diploma in Art and Design, both in Digital Design.
She is well on track to qualify as she is currently ranked 85 in the world for doubles and 337 in mixed.
During her international tour she has been to Dublin, Turkey and Glasgow to compete so far, with all games helping get her to her goals.
“My short term goal is to get to a high standard and gain good ranking points,” she says. “I would like to get to at least the second or third round in doubles or mixed at an international tournament.”
Her long term goal is to be top 30 in the world for doubles or mixed.
On top of competing and work Gregory is currently studying a Masters part-time.
For this she is creating a documentary of all the countries she goes to until March 2013.
“I shall reflect upon each country on how the culture difference played a role when it comes to cultural identity, with me coming from NZ and Indian background.”
