New designers look to the future at Urbis Designday
AUT University postgraduate students will give Auckland a taste of what’s to come at Urbis Designday’s inaugural Future Designers exhibition.
AUT University is the only tertiary education provider chosen to take part in Urbis Designday, a one day event which features installations by 12 New Zealand design stars (including Xanthe White and Zambesi) at leading showrooms around Auckland.
This year Urbis Designday will take place on Saturday 20th March and buses will take people around venues.
A select group of recent graduates and students from AUT’s School of Art & Design will have a collective show at Simon James (AUT alumni) Design Store, 62 Upper Queen Street. The designers have taken projects done as part of their post graduate work and developed them into the exhibitions for the show. Work on display will range from fashion to film.
Future Designers is sponsored by Hewlett Packard which contributed $500 towards each student’s exhibit and the use of HP equipment. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for their favourite designer who will win a Hewlett Packard notebook.
The students showing are Nadeesha Godamunne and Glenn Yungnickel (fashion postgraduate), Yosop Ryoo (spatial design postgraduate), Celia Harrison (spatial design), Anzac Tasker (graphic design postgraduate), Stephen Reay (product design postgraduate) and Jillian Round (digital design postgraduate).
