Professor Brett Cowan has been appointed to the position of Tumuaki | Dean of the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences
After a comprehensive international search and selection process, Brett joins from the Crown Research Institute, Environmental Science and Research (ESR), where he has served as Chief Scientist and General Manager Research, Head of Commercialisation and Māori Economy.
Prior to this, Brett’s career has included various roles as an academic, as a research and administrative leader at the University of Auckland and as an emergency medicine clinician.
AUT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Damon Salesa, says Brett comes into the role with an exceptional reputation as a seasoned and relational leader, who brings to AUT a range of experiences and knowledge that cover key areas that will benefit the faculty, the University, its partners, and the communities it serves.
“Brett is deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of Aotearoa, to uplifting all of our communities, and understands how AUT has been and will continue to be, a leader in this mahi,” says Professor Salesa.
“He knows first-hand the critical role of Allied Health professions, and understands the opportunity presented by the faculty’s unique combination of health, sports and science.”
