The Council of Auckland University of Technology has announced the election of Mr John Maasland as the Chancellor of the University.
Mr Maasland’s service to the governance of the University began in 2009 when he was appointed to the University Council in consultation with the Central Organisation of Employers.
Mr Maasland was born in the Waikato and gained a BA in law and then an MA in law from the University of Cambridge, UK.
John has been a Manukau resident since 1975 and is passionate about giving something back to this community.
Mr Maasland comments '' It is a privilege to be asked to lead such a dynamic institution such as AUT. I relish this opportunity to play a role in the future of the community through the delivery of high quality university education”.
Trained as a lawyer, John Maasland has a distinguished career in business including executive and directorship roles at ICI, Morrison PIM Holdings and Wilson & Horton Limited. He is a director of Delegat’s Group, APN News & Media LTD, Waterman Holdings Limited and the New Zealand School of Music Limited.
John is currently chairman of the South Auckland Health Foundation, the Radio Network Limited and Hellaby Holdings Limited and was previously Chair of the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Carter Holt Harvey Limited.
John Maasland succeeds Sir Paul Reeves who was Chancellor of AUT from February 2005 to August 2011. Sir Paul Reeves made a tremendous contribution to the standing, success and spirit of AUT.
