AUT University has appointed Dr Geoff Perry as the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law.
Dr Perry says he will continue to build the Faculty's New Zealand and international reputation for quality, connectedness, relevance and impact in education and research.
"AUT is sought after as a place to work and study," says the new Dean. "We are transforming lives and changing business."
"We are the Faculty of choice for students who are seeking a rigorous, high quality and relevant qualification. And through gaining an AUT education, our students greatly enhance their opportunities in life.
"We are the Faculty of choice for staff who seek a rewarding and challenging teaching and research environment. We are the institution that business and the professions seek out for graduates and engagement."
AUT's Faculty of Business and Law is known for its dynamic interaction between academic and professional practice and has a distinguished tradition of applied learning and research. The Faculty contains New Zealand’s second-largest Business School and the country’s newest Law School.
The position of dean attracted interest from high calibre New Zealand and overseas candidates.
Dr Perry has played a pivotal role in building the Faculty and will lead its continuing development. He has been the Acting Dean of the faculty since the death of the former dean, Professor Des Graydon in April this year.
He holds a PhD in Economics, an MPhil (Honours) in Economics and an MA in Geography, all from the University of Auckland. He has research interests in the areas of international trade, East Asian economies, entrepreneurship, economics pedagogy, labour market policy and evaluation of labour market interventions.
Dr Perry joined the Faculty in 1992 and was appointed Associate Dean in 2002. In this role he was responsible for a range of academic portfolios, including Research, Head of School, Postgraduate Programmes and Development. During this time from 1996 to 2009, he was also Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, in Bangkok.
Dr Perry was made Deputy Dean of the Faculty in 2009 but has spent most of that time as Acting Dean. Since 2008 he held executive-level responsibilities, including chairing the Vice-Chancellor's Budget and Capital Working groups.
He has also held positions in the Faculty as Director Postgraduate Programmes, Director Centre for Executive Education and Director Economy Institute (NZ).
