AINBO: LA GUERRERA DEL AMAZONAS WAS ONE OF THE FILMS ON OFFER.

More than 1000 theatregoers attended the Latin America & Spain Film Festival (LASFF) last month at AUT.

The popularity of the festival is growing in Auckland every year with this year's booking numbers considerably higher than previous years, says Gloria Vazquez, Senior Lecturer and local festival organiser.

“We are certain that, with the steady increase of people from Latin America and Spain here in Auckland, this Festival will continue to be one of the best events for our community,” she says.

“The selection of films from Latin America and Spain is fantastic and the festival opens the doors to the rich linguistic and cultural landscapes of Latin America and Spain.”

Gloria Vazquez says one of the highlights of the festival for her was meeting people from different countries.

“It was a great event for networking and meeting many new people as well as a good opportunity to catch up with lots of people that we had not seen for a while.”

LASFF is an annual non-profit event which aims to bring together Latin American, Spanish and other New Zealand communities through the big screen.

The festival is run by Latin American and Spanish embassies and based in Wellington, but is also held around the country, with the Auckland screenings organised by Gloria Vazquez and Lecturer Elba Ramirez from the Spanish department at AUT.
