This month AUT put on the Auckland screenings for the 22nd Latin America & Spain Film Festival.

Local festival co-organiser Senior Lecturer Gloria Vazquez says about 1000 people watched seven films across a week, chosen by staff at various embassies.

“Overall, it was a very popular and enjoyable seven nights with a fantastic selection of movies with different genres from Latin America and Spain,” she says.

The festival helps to link together the broader Spanish community in Auckland, while also strengthening ties between them and other cultures present in Aotearoa.

“The popularity of the festival continues to grow every year, and we are certain that with the steady increase of population from Latin America and Spain here in Tāmaki Makaurau, this festival will continue to be one of the best events for our community in our beautiful city and in the country.”

Local festival co-organiser Senior Lecturer Elba Ramirez says it was great to see such a good range of genres to suit everyone’s taste.

“It was moving to see such big ovations at the end of each movie. As in previous years, the audience seemed to have enjoyed all the movies, and we had nothing but good feedback throughout the festival.”
