We’re pleased to launch episode three of AUT’s 2022 Pacific Language Week Video series – AUT Focus on Sustainability.
The short 60-second animation puts the focus on Pacific climate activism.
“Our Pacific Nations contribute the least to climate change compared to other nations, but they are the most impacted by rising sea levels,” says Lefaoali’I Dr Dion Enari, lecturer at the AUT School of Sport and Recreation.
“Pacific climate activism is about advocating for the existence and rights of our islands to withstand climate change and drive other countries to take action.
“It’s critical we use new ways of activism such as linking our Pacific cultures and perspectives with the more traditional forms of protest,” says Dr Enari.
The video is narrated in Kiribati (with English subtitles) to acknowledge this Language Week being celebrated in Aotearoa from 10 July to 16 July.
