AUT University has offered support to AUT students and staff affected by the Japan earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
“I have no doubt that everyone has found it distressing to watch news reports of Friday’s earthquake off the coast of Japan and the devastating tsunami it triggered,” says AUT Vice-Chancellor Derek McCormack.
“Our thoughts are with Japan as it struggles to come to grips with the scale of this disaster and the shocking loss of life it has caused. On behalf of the university I offer sincere sympathy and condolences to our students and staff who are affected.”
Over the weekend AUT’s Pro Vice-Chancellor International, Professor Nigel Hemmington, and Student Services staff contacted AUT’s Japanese students to provide support, counselling and embassy information.
AUT understands that students may be worried about the safety of their families and friends, and will be trying to make contact with them. Students can contact the AUT services below for advice.
