Talofa lava – (hello).

Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week) – 28 May to 3 June – is time to celebrate and reflect on the rich culture here in New Zealand.

The theme is Ma’au i lou ofaga. Maua’a lou fa’asinomaga – (keep your identity alive to thrive).

As with last year, we will continue to focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2040.

This week, we will explore SDG #9 – Industry, Infrastructure and Innovation – with an emphasis on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Technological progress is the foundation of efforts to achieve environmental objectives, such as increased resource and energy-efficiency. Without technology and innovation, industrialisation will not happen. And, without industrialisation, development will not happen.

“Sometimes we look at this field and think it’s so difficult, but with our talent we could go so far in this amazing industry that is overflowing with opportunities,” says AUT student, Eteroa Lafaele, who is studying a Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences.

Each year, we celebrate Pacific language weeks to acknowledge the diverse cultures at AUT.
This week, people calling the main phone line at AUT will be greeted in Gagana Samoa.

La Manuia – (good luck).
