One in eight Kiwis has dental anxiety, and it’s a major barrier to seeking oral health care, says Professor Zac Morse.
We asked Zac five questions ahead of his Inaugural Professorial Address – he discussed his research on pain and anxiety control in oral health care and the need for curing it.
“Dental anxiety has been managed pharmacologically, we give people medication to mask the problem, but it actually doesn’t cure the problem, so it’s going to require collaboration and thinking differently, maybe using psychological approaches, to actually cure the phobia or the anxiety that the person may have.”
This is a free public lecture, and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
When: Tuesday 15 June, 4.30pm – 5.30pm
Where: WA Conference Centre, City Campus
