Professor Matthew Ryan became interested in economics during Postgraduate study, where he learned that economics is a field with opportunities in many areas, with a niche for anyone.
We asked Matthew five questions ahead of his Inaugural Professorial Address – he discussed various research projects in his field of economics, surprising findings from his research, and his hopes for his area of expertise.
“A lot of my research is about uncovering paradoxes in human behaviour, so there’s lots of surprising things that people do. When people find their intuition suddenly upturned, it makes them look much more closely at their assumptions,” he said.
