One thing that surprises people about Professor Andrew Gibbons’ research, is that he doesn’t focus on why there should be more men in early childhood, as people expect him to – he’s opposed to thinking about gender and male teachers in simple ways.
We asked Andrew five questions ahead of his Inaugural Professorial Address – he discussed his research on the philosophy and politics of education.
“My hope with regards to my area of practice is that when student teachers graduate from AUT, they keep the relationship going as alumni,” he said.
“They want to come back, share their stories and ask questions so coming to AUT is something that they see as a lifetime connection. This way we can continue to support our student teachers as they go forward into their careers.”
This is a free public lecture, and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Date: Tuesday 20 July, 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm
Venue: WA Conference Centre, City Campus
