Dame Marilyn Waring on new WHO Council
The World Health Organisation has asked Professor Dame Marilyn Waring to help come up with new strategies to build healthy societies.
The AUT Professor of Public Policy is one of 11 global experts convened for the new WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All.
The Council’s focus is to come up with ways to shape economies and financial systems - with the objective of building healthy societies that are just, inclusive, equitable and sustainable.
It aims to reframe health for all, as a global objective, and it will provide independent advice to the WHO Director-General.
Professor Waring says she is privileged to have this opportunity to work with "such an extraordinary range of expertise and experience".
"I hope to make a serious contribution to the focus on the issues of measurement – ‘valuing and measuring health for all’, questions of wellbeing, environmental sustainability and unpaid and voluntary work."
Council members include: Professor Mariana Mazzucato, as Chair, along with Professor Senait Fisseha, Professor Jayati Ghosh, Vanessa Huang, Professor Stephanie Kelton, Professor Ilona Kickbusch, Linah Kelebogile Mohohlo, Dr Zélia Maria Profeta da Luz, Kate Raworth and Professor Dame Marilyn Waring.
