AUT Business School’s Shadow a Leader day on Wednesday 10 July will enable students to experience a day in the life of 50 of New Zealand’s top business leaders.
Leaders include John Dalzell (CEO, Waterfront Auckland), Andrew McKenzie (Chief Financial Officer, Auckland Council), Brett O’Riley (CEO, Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development), Franceska Banga (CEO, New Zealand Venture Leadership Fund), Chris Quin (Head of Telecom Retail) and Sue Watson (CEO, Kea New Zealand).
One secondary school and one AUT business and law student identified for their leadership potential will be paired with a business leader.
During the day they will take part in strategy meetings, negotiations, videoconferences, team building meetings and client sales presentations to learn what it takes to succeed in their leader’s field.
Dean of AUT Faculty of Business and Law Dr Geoff Perry says: “AUT runs Shadow a Leader day to open the business world to students and to enable business leaders to engage with what could be the next generation of leaders.”
The day will begin with a breakfast at AUT Business School for students, school principals and teachers, university heads, business leaders and Sir Peter Blake Trust staff. Participants will also be invited back for a Dean’s Leaders Luncheon where Shelley Campbell, CEO of Sir Peter Blake Trust, will give a keynote speech and students will have an opportunity to network.
After taking part in Shadow a Leader 2012, AUT law student Justin Maloney gained employment with Bell Gully and Takapuna Grammar student Tara Collins was awarded a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship to study Business and Communications at AUT.
Shadow a Leader is an AUT Leadership Week initiative run during the Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week (5-12 July).
