Master of Communication Studies alumna Lina Tianyue Hu has been nominated in the best director category of the ‘Show Me Shorts’ short film competition.
Her film My Daughter is Coming screens Saturday 8 October at the Rialto, and the Show Me Shorts awards evening takes place on Sunday 9 October. Lina is competing against some very experienced filmmakers.
The film has already picked up Best Cinematography Award at the Hollywood Diversity Festival and has just also been selected to the Reel Sisters, an Oscar qualifying film festival in the USA.
My Daughter is Coming tells an intergenerational story of migrant life in Aotearoa from a Chinese and Japanese perspective, in the Japanese and Chinese languages, and was shot in Tāmaki Makaurau.
