AUT University scholarships encourage doctoral study
Scholarship recipients with AUT Vice Chancellor, Derek McCormack

AUT’s Vice Chancellor, Derek McCormack has awarded 24 scholarships each worth $95,000 to support high calibre international and domestic doctoral candidates to complete their studies.

The Vice Chancellor’s doctoral scholarships aim to help reduce the emotional and financial pressure that can come with doctoral study not just on the students but on their friends and families.

One family had a double celebration with brother and sister Tom and Sarah Stewart both named as scholarship recipients.

Tom will be completing his doctoral study in the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences under the supervision of Dr Scott Duncan and Professor Grant Schofield. His research will focus on the ‘Objective assessment of mobility and contextual expology; environmental correlates of adolescent physical activity.’

Sarah will also be completing her doctoral studies in the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences under the supervision of Professor Keith Rome, Associate Professor Alain Vandal and Associate Professor Nicola Dalbeth. Sarah will focus her research on the ‘First Metatarsophalangeal Joint in Chronic Gout and Asymptomatic Hyperuricaemia.’

Both Tom and Sarah completed their undergraduate degrees at AUT in Sport and Recreation and Health Sciences (Podiatry) respectively.

AUT encourages doctoral candidates to apply for the next round of scholarships. For more information on this scholarship and to apply click here.
