AUT student Edmond Fehoko has won the Cogita Inspiration Award at the 2013 Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards.

The awards, which Education Minister Hekia Parata says in a press release “profile high-achieving young Pacific people” and “help inspire young Pacific people to reach their full potential”, are awarded for leadership, creativity and inspiration.

Edmond, who is studying for a master’s degree in Social Sciences and hopes to go on to a PhD, won one of the four inspiration awards for his work with youth in his community. According to the press release, Edmond’s Tongan Methodist Church youth group helps other groups look at young people’s issues, in particular youth suicide and he is also part of a Christian group that facilitates monthly workshops for Paremoremo prison inmates.

Edmond will receive an overseas trip and/or personal development worth up to $5000 from Cogita Business Systems as his prize.
