AUT South Campus turns into sports field for families
AUT brand ambassadors showcase the South Campus’ various offerings at last year’s NZ Post ActivePost free family fun day.

Children and their families will have the chance to get active with shot-put legend Valerie Adams at a free Family Fun Day on Sunday 18 October at the AUT South Campus in Manukau.

Executive Director of the AUT South Campus Richard Hall, says the Campus is proud to be hosting New Zealand Post’s Health and Wellness community programme, ActivePost, for the second year running.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the community to our AUT South campus, in what will be a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” says Hall.

“This event aligns particularly well with what we stand for - the Campus has a strong focus on health, wellness, food and nutrition in terms of its study offerings, and we are also supporter of Project Energize, a significant regional health programme that has, through schools, improved nutrition and physical activity.”

The ActivePost event is all about getting more New Zealanders active and contributing to improved levels of health and wellness, benefiting individuals, communities and ultimately New Zealand. It is a free family fun day, and includes a variety of interactive and physical activity, and a chance to get some top tips from some of New Zealand’s best professional athletes, including ActivePost ambassador and renowned NZ Olympic and Commonwealth athlete, Valerie Adams.

The event has been organised by ActivePost which is part of New Zealand Post. “We want people to bring their families along and join in the fun,” says New Zealand Post sponsorship spokesperson, Jo Avenell. “Everyone will be able to have a go at a range of sports including cricket, hockey, waka ama, tennis, touch rugby and athletics.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting people on Sunday and watching them try their hand at all these different sports,” says Adams. “I want to encourage people to get active, get involved, and most importantly, have fun.”

The ActivePost Family Fun Day starts at 12pm on Sunday and finishes at 4pm. As well as the sports activities, there’ll be a giant inflatable slide and a bouncy castle on site. There is no parking on site, but a free shuttle bus will run between the Manukau Station and the Manukau Sports Bowl.
