AUT scholar wins Fulbright
The Business School's Tago Mharapara has been named a 2022 Fulbright New Zealand scholar.
The prestigious awards aim to forge international collaboration and for all recipients to have a transformational impact in their area of expertise.
Dr Mharapara leads an interdisciplinary AUT research team that recently received a coveted Health Research Council grant to investigate sustainability challenges for community-based midwives.
The lecturer in the Department of Management will spend the latter half of 2022 at Brown University's Policy Lab in Providence, Rhode Island, in the United States.
Tago says the Fulbright award will enable him to study how research evidence is integrated into the health policymaking process. It will also allow him to expand his network of colleagues working in applied policy research.
"The integration of research and policy is a key strategy for improving health systems worldwide. I intend to absorb what my US-based colleagues have learned about effective and ineffective strategies for stakeholder engagement and contribute these experiences to the multi-year HRC-funded project."
Tago says he is happy and humbled to be one of just three scholars to receive a Fulbright award this year. He particularly acknowledges his AUT colleagues: Dean of the Business School, Professor Kate Kearins; Department of Management colleagues Professor Helena Cooper-Thomas and Dr Barbara Myers; and Professor Ineke Crezee and Associate Professor Fiona Amundsen for their support with his application.
