AUT professor named ISBNPA president
Professor Erica Hinckson has been elected as President of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
The ISBNPA which, has more than 1000 members and represents 44 countries, includes 40 government agencies, industry and professional organisations as well as close to 150 academic and medical institutions. Its mission is to stimulate, promote and advocate innovative research and policy in the areas of behavioral nutrition and physical activity with the aim of improving human health and well-being worldwide.
Professor Hinckson, who is the Head of AUT’s School of Sport and Recreation, says she would like to advance the Society’s strategic thinking and planning and its profile by linking to key world organisations. She also would like to raise its position as an organisation producing excellent research to resolve everyday issues in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and health.

A delegation of AUT academics from the School of Sport and Recreation attended the ISBNPA conference in Prague last year where it was announced that AUT will co-host the conference with Auckland University, this June.
AUT academics are active contributors to the society’s journal, The International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity(impact factor 5.548). Recent articles include, “Measuring posture and ambulatory movement in children” and “Children’s active school transport and the built environment.”
Professor Hinckson’s research focus is physical activity and the built environment with a desire to affect large-scale change. With this in mind she has always had a commitment to collaboration and connecting researchers around the world.
