AUT University in partnership with Huawei today announced a new scholarship programme (AUT South Huawei High Achiever Programme) which will provide at least six undergraduates each year the chance to study at AUT and undertake real world learning with Huawei.

The scholarships are being offered to at least six high achieving undergraduates who will be studying a Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences at AUT South in 2014. The scholarships include a $3000 fee payment and a top of the range Huawei smartphone or tablet. They also provide an all-expenses paid trip to China, including time at Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarters where students will be able to learn from the best of the best in the technology world, attend Huawei’s on-site university and experience life at an organisation which invested US$4.7 billion in research and development over the last year.

AUT Vice-Chancellor Derek McCormack says that, “The offer of $3000 towards study is a real bonus for students as it significantly reduces the cost of gaining a university degree.”
“But not only that, these students are being provided with an incomparable opportunity to visit China, experience the culture, and immerse themselves in life at one of the world’s great technology companies.”

Huawei global Deputy Chairman of the Board and rotating CEO Guo Ping visited AUT this week to launch the AUT South Huawei High Achiever Programme.
“Huawei employs more than 150,000 people around the world, including 70,000 who are dedicated to R&D. We benefit hugely from the great works of Universities such as AUT – ten per cent of our current NZ staff are AUT graduates – so for us the decision to partner with them is easy. We are investing in the future of Huawei, and young New Zealanders,” he said.

This is Huawei’s first New Zealand University partnership and AUT is honoured to have been selected because of the university’s focus on modern and real world learning.

Students wanting to apply for the new AUT South Huawei High Achiever Programme in 2014 will have until 5pm Monday 16 December 2013. More information is available here where people can learn about the BCIS programme and also provide their details to express their interest in applying for the scholarship.
