AUT offers new scholarship to mature students
AUT has launched a new scholarship for people ages 20 and over who want to embark on a career change.
Applications are now open for the AUT New Start Scholarship and close on 15 June. Aimed at people aged 20 and older, the scholarship is specifically for people who are currently working and wish to progress in their career or retrain and need a tertiary qualification to do so.
Successful applicants will receive funding of up to $6,500 per annum from AUT to help cover the cost of course fees. Supporting full or part-time study, the New Start Scholarship is aimed at people who want to obtain a tertiary qualification for the first time or to upskill by obtaining a postgraduate qualification.
Up to ten scholarships are available to study in any AUT subject at undergraduate or postgraduate level, including for a Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Postgraduate Certificate, Masters or the coursework papers for a Professional Doctorate. Studies can be undertaken at any of AUT’s three campuses.
Philippa Hay, Head of Scholarships said the New Start Scholarship provides an opportunity for anyone in the workforce who feels “stuck” in their current career.
“We recognise that many people, especially those who have been working in their chosen industry for a while without progression, would like to embark on a career change. Whether you wish to progress in your chosen field, or would like a career change, gaining further qualifications is one way to do this,” Philippa says.
“When you have a mortgage, family or other commitments it can be hard to make the commitment to further study. AUT has created this scholarship to help make tertiary study for mature students a real possibility. If you've had more than one job in your field and it's clear no matter where you go, things won't be any better, we encourage you to apply,” Philippa adds.
The scholarship is only available to New Zealand Citizens or permanent residents aged at least 20 at the time of application who meet the entry requirements for their chosen course of study.
To be eligible applicants must have been in full-time employment for a minimum of two years prior to application and must not currently be undertaking tertiary study.
