AUT Law Professor on Law Reform Committee
Warren Brookbanks, Professor of Criminal Law and Justice Studies and founder and director of AUT’s Centre for Non-Adversarial Justice, has been appointed to the criminal law committee of the New Zealand Law Society.
The Law Society recently announced the membership of its law reform committees, which brings together the skills and experience of 136 people from the legal profession across 16 committees to serve a two-year term.
Professor Charles Rickett, Dean of Law at AUT, says the appointment is further evidence of Professor Brookbanks’ position as the leading criminal law scholar working in a New Zealand law school.
“His work is rightly regarded as cutting edge and of considerable theoretical and practical import. He continues to bring much kudos to AUT and its Law School as serious participants in New Zealand legal education and research,” says Professor Rickett.
The work of the committees brings a lot of firepower to ensuring the legal profession is contributing to New Zealand law reform, New Zealand Law Society President Kathryn Beck says in the Law Society magazine LawTalk.
