The Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia conference, held at AUT University last month, awarded a team of AUT students the best poster award.

The competition, run during the HERDSA conference held in the Sir Paul Reeves Building, was for all conference-goers and the posters were used as discussion points.

How they won

The posters were accompanied by proposals that needed to fit the conference theme of ‘the Place of Learning and Teaching.

The winning AUT LATTE team focused on the fact that mobile devices are becoming more commonplace in classrooms and are driving the incentive for institutions to adopt mobile learning practives, even though those tools are rarely designed with formal teaching in mind.

The proposal for the poster outlined how Dr Stanley Frielick (AUT Director of Learning and Teaching) formed a team of Learning and Teaching Technology Enablers (LATTEs) to facilitate use of these technologies, especially iPads.

“The LATTEs are a team of students who provide the driving force behind supporting a broad range of tools, including over 800 AUT purchased iPads. The team provides support for departments integrating the use of mobile devices in areas such as research, teaching, content management and creation through scheduled tutorials and training, drop-in and on-demand support sessions,” the proposal said.

The award was presented to the poster with the highest number of votes from all delegates.  There were 30 posters on display during the conference.
