Auckland University of Technology played host to more than 100 budding engineers in September, supporting two Epro8 Challenge events.
The 2023 Epro8 Challenge Auckland Region finals for Years 11-13 and 9-10 school students took place at AUT’s City Campus on 5 and 6 September.
The winning teams at this year’s events were ‘The Submersible’ from ACG Parnell College for Years 11-13, and ‘Tubo Tacos’ from Henderson High School for Years 9-10.
Every year more than 22,000 secondary school students take part in the inter-school science and engineering competition, known as Epro8, which is designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving.
Teams of four are provided with a workstation with an assortment of equipment including gears, wheels, pulleys, joiners, nuts and bolts, tools, aluminium framing, motors and electronics.
At the start of the event, teams are given a booklet containing four challenges, and can choose which challenges to complete. The more difficult the challenge, the more points they can achieve.
Due to time constraints, teams need to be strategic about which challenges they take on based on their skills and abilities.
AUT has been a proud sponsor of Epro8 andhosted events during 2022 and 2023.
